Love It or Hate It?

Zoysia is a warm season grass known for its durability and it's weed crushing capabilities

Zoysia is available by seed or plugs. By seed the seed is very small and one pound will cover roughly 1,000 square feet. It can only be planted after the 2nd week of June, all of July and into the 2nd week of August. Because of the size of the seed, some people choose to mix the seed with annual rye to help cover the area better. The rye will be used as a carrier and will help protect the seed when germinating. Because of the timing of the year, watering will be critical every day. Always make sure your ph and nutrient levels are correct before starting. A soil test will help

When using plugs, typically the larger plugs, the better. Plugs are either field grown or greenhouse grown. Space plugs between one foot to 18" apart in a 5 pattern. (Example: Like the #5 on a dice). The water requirements will be the same as seed.

Zoysia will be green when the weather is warm and brown when the weather is cold. This is basically the opposite of fescues.

Only feed Zoysia when it's actively growing in June, July and August if needed
